› Why we should give free money to everyone
In my 2013 Year In Review post I wrote about De Correspondent being my favorite news website. It’s a Dutch site, but today I came across one of their articles in English, it had been translated. If you’re interested in De Correspondent, you should read the article. It’s genuinely interesting too.
In case you’re not familiar with De Correspondent, here’s a brief summary. De Correspondent is a Dutch news website. It launched after a crowd-funding campaign in which it raised a total of 1.7 million Euro by 15.000 backers.
My dad was one of those 15.000 backers so I was able to read De Correspondent from the beginning, and it has been a thrill to be able to. They don’t just write news headlines but digg deeper into news. For example they wrote about the second biggest Dutch company that no-one ever knew of and no newspaper ever wrote about.
De Correspondent is going mainstream now, and it reached 30.000 members today. Their investigative journalism now even gets picked up by traditional newspapers too. Jay Rosen even declared De Correspondent the most interesting journalism start-up he read about in 2013.
